River Eden

A good spell of dry weather has put the Eden back into a good fly fishable state, the levels are around the one foot mark. There still are plenty of kelts waiting to drop down the river from above Carlisle, and a good number of baggots which would suggest there are still fish yet to spawn. The river is looking very clean and clear at present, there has been a little gravel movement throughout the system, but not too much damage with the recent high water we have experienced.

I was out on the river last wednesday with Ed and Phil shaking a few cob-webs off.

It was not a bad day weather-wise although the east wind did have a little bite to it. There was quite a bit of action throughout the afternoon when the temperature did finally rise.

It did not seem to matter too much to the fish when they were on which pattern they took, anything from large hairwings to bugs.

There still seems to be a shortage of grayling in the Eden this winter, it would be nice to have an answer to that one.

River Eden

At last the river is at a reasonable height and condition that we were able to get out after the recent very high water. The flood has certainly moved some gravel around and it will be all to re-discover again where the good lies are, the river is looking very clean and scoured at present. I did hear that there was a springer caught this last few days on the lower river on a spinner which is always good news to hear that there are the odd fish entering the Eden. There are kelts now beginning to drop down the system, I just hope there has ben a good spawning and not too much damage done to the redds with the high water of last week.

Out with Ken, William and Chris on the middle river yesterday, the water was gin clear with about a foot above summer level and the weather quite clement for the time of year.

Once again this season the grayling were very hard to locate, all we could do after searching over a mile of river was to pick up twp grayling and one lost. The hard work was well worth it as both grayling were just over two pounds and fell to Williams rod.

Should be able to get out now for the next few days if the forecast is as it says to see what is what after the changes.

River Eden

Not the best start I can remember to the salmon season on the Eden, five meters of water going through with gale force winds! The forecast looks a litle more settled for the coming week so fingers crossed we can get out by Thursday or Friday.
